HOW TO GET TO THE GLACIER

IN AUTUMN AND WINTER

Treat yourself to a top-class car ride, where James Bond himself had a wild chase: you can reach the glacier directly from Sölden, driving along the Ötztal Glacier Road. The Ötztal Glacier Road is subject to a toll unless you are in possession of a valid skipass. In autumn, we recommend that you check the current status of the Ötztal Glacier Road before you arrive, as the glacier road will be closed from mid/late November (all winter long). Alternatively, a regular bus service takes you directly to the Glacier Arena. You can also ski from Sölden to the glacier via Giggijoch and “Golden Gate” glacier express as soon as the Giggijoch winter ski area is in operation.

ACCESSIBILITY IN

WINTER AND IN SPRING

In winter you can reach the Glacier Arena only on skis via the Sölden winter ski area using the “Golden Gate” glacier express as the Ötztal Glacier Road remains closed to public transport all winter long. In spring, as soon as the glacier road is open again, you can drive to the Glacier Arena. Access is free with a valid skipass, otherwise a toll will be charged. Please check the current status daily, especially in spring, as the accessibility of the Ötztal Glacier Road depends on the snow conditions and the weather. If you want to take it easy, then the bus is the perfect choice.

HOW TO GET TO THE

GLACIER ARENA IN SUMMER

If you are traveling by car, you can reach the realm of eternal ice via the Ötztal Glacier Road from Sölden – the road is subject to a toll. You can also leave your car at home and use the public bus (free of charge for holders of the Ötztal Inside Summer Card). The sportiest way to reach the glacier is by bike along the Ötztal Glacier Road or by mountain lift, starting from Rotkogelhütte via MTB route number 648. From there also a hiking trail leads to the fabulous Glacier Arena.

GOOD TO KNOW

THE ROAD CONNECTION

BETWEEN THE GLACIERS

The Rosi Mittermaier Tunnel also connects the two glaciers for drivers and takes you effortlessly from Rettenbach to Tiefenbach glacier and its varied slopes and restaurants. The car tunnel is 1729 meters long and Austria’s highest car tunnel at 2829 meters above sea level.
